A Highly Engaged Manufacturing Workforce Produces the Highest-Quality Parts
United CGTR understands that quality is paramount to our customers’ success, especially in high-risk industries like aerospace and medical. Over the years, we’ve invested in the right equipment and implemented the right processes to ensure superior quality. However, one thing that has become clear is that our most important assets are our people.
We’re proud to have a highly engaged and passionate workforce that takes immense pride in producing the highest-quality work. Here’s a look behind the scenes at what sets our internal culture apart and how customers benefit, whether they trust us with centerless grinding services, thread rolling services, or any of our other many capabilities.
What Sets Our Internal Culture Apart
1. Employee meetings
We hold weekly employee meetings to bring everyone together, review the current schedule, and conduct an open dialogue. These meetings serve as a back-and-forth between management and employees. Management has the opportunity to share the big wins from the week, and our team has the opportunity to voice questions or concerns that could lead to improvements.
2. Open-door policy
Larry, our precision grinding company’s plant manager, makes a point to speak to every team member daily to hear about what’s happening in their work and personal lives. He maintains a complete open-door policy, making it clear to everyone on the team that they can drop by his office anytime.
3. No finger-pointing
Mistakes happen. When someone makes a mistake, we encourage them to come forward so we can all learn from it and move on. They feel comfortable doing this because they know we won’t point fingers and play the blame game. We review problems together to identify the root cause and change our approach in the future, which helps us to improve continuously.
4. Treating others with respect
This golden rule inspires us to treat others the way we want to be treated. Management leads by example, treating employees with the respect they deserve.
5. Appreciation and recognition
We always take a moment to recognize a team member for a job well done. From verbal acknowledgments at weekly meetings to gift cards for dinner or tickets to a Red Sox game, we make sure our team feels appreciated for their contributions.
6. Professional development
When our employees grow, we grow, and our customers receive even better service. It’s a win for everyone. We emphasize professional development by prioritizing cross-training. Instead of staying on one machine for 20 years (which is not uncommon in manufacturing), our team gains experience across all departments, so they become experts in precision grinding services, thread rolling services, wire EDM services, Swiss machining services, and more. This approach not only keeps their work exciting but also fosters job security.
7. Team-building
We love any opportunity for a fun team-building activity! Mini golfing, axe throwing, and a custom scavenger hunt are some of the more popular ones from recent years. Most recently, we invited our team and their families on a charter fishing trip off the Connecticut shoreline. These experiences give everyone a chance to grow closer and interact with people they might not interact with regularly on the shop floor.
The United CGTR Difference
United CGTR is committed to providing excellent and consistent on-time delivery and quality. We’ve learned from experience that when employees work in a positive environment, that’s reflected in the work they do. They pay attention to details, meet deadlines, and get parts right the first time. It’s because of our people that our rework percentage is so low and our on-time delivery rate is 98%.
How we treat our team also extends to how we treat customers and vendors: with the utmost respect and integrity.
